Ethan turns seven today. He gets his choice of dinner – so he’s chosen to go to the District 73.5 picnic tonight, but we’ll take McDonald’s food there. Then ice cream cake afterwards.
So here’s a sampling of what goes on in June for the Humphries-Dolnicks:
Pics as they happen…
It’s that time of year – the period between posts when either there’s nothing to post about, or no time to do it. Pretty soon summer will be upon us, and I’m sure we’ll have a lot going on. But meanwhile… yawn.
So here are a few quick news updates, for those of you who must have them:
That’s about it. If I have anything to post pictures of, I will. Summer’s just around the corner…
Justin is five now, his birthday party was at Brunswick Zone in Niles, Illinois where we bowled for 90 minutes, and had pizza, pop, and cake. Everyone had a great time. Pictures are here.
Just a quickie note – Justin has chosen to have a bowling (!!!) party for his birthday, which will be this Saturday. Invites for local friends and family have already gone out. I’ll post pictures afterward.
I usually post the lyrics to a song that I’m dedicating to the birthday person. It took me a while to think of a song that fits Kelly, but here it is.
Woodstock – CSNY
Well, I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, Tell me, where are you going?
This he told me
Said, I’m going down to Yasgur’s Farm,
Gonna join in a rock and roll band.
Got to get back to the land and set my soul free.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
Well, then can I roam beside you?
I have come to lose the smog,
And I feel myself a cog in somethin’ turning.
And maybe it’s the time of year,
Yes and maybe it’s the time of man.
And I don’t know who I am,
But life is for learning.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
By the time we got to Woodstock,
We were half a million strong
And everywhere was a song and a celebration.
And I dreamed I saw the bomber death planes
Riding shotgun in the sky,
Turning into butterflies
Above our nation.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are caught in the devils bargain,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
Yes, it’s already that time of year again, when we make our annual pilgrimage to the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois to watch the monster trucks jump, crush, and tumble and we soak up all the complex hydrocarbons. This year, we also got free “Pit Party” passes, which let us arrive early and hob-knob with the drivers, get autographs, and take pictures next to the trucks.
Pictures are HERE.
Boy, it’s been really busy over the last two weeks. My aunt Sandy passed away, and so Aaron had to perform his Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) solo performance with Bubbe watching while Marla and I were in Albuquerque, NM for the funeral. The great news is, that Aaron placed in Division I, the top division of the IGSMA, which is an honor reserved for the best grade school musicians in the state.
We are, of course, all thrilled with Aaron’s achievement.
The FBI has released their “file” on George Carlin, after his daughter requested it under the Freedom of Information Act. One would think this would be one hell of a juicy file on the man who made fun of J. Edgar Hoover on television and, of course, often repeated those seven words you can never say on television.
What muckracking did Carlin get himself into? What secret data did they store? What plans did the FBI have to track him, listen to him, and perhaps lean on him?
Turns out, not much. In his FBI file were copies of several letters that upright, concerned citizens sent the FBI about his appearances on T.V. in 1969 and 1970. Included in the file were thank you notes that the FBI sent back to those concerned citizens.
And that’s about it.
One note in his file from an agent asks “What do we know about Carlin?” and another memo notes that they “have no data on Carlin.”
Carlin’s daughter Kelly was quoted as saying that the contents of the file “kind of disappoints me”, implying that she expected that she was disappointed that her anti-government father had not garnered more attention.
