Even though the regular AYSO season is over, Aaron, ever the soccer player, played in the Tri-Regional Tournament today. Each region is basically one city, so in theory it’s three cities competing against each other – but there were multiple teams from each city, so we ended up playing Highland Park twice and Peterson Park once. In the end, every team ended up 1-1-1 (one win, one loss, one tie) and the goals scored determined the tie-breaker. Each team from Highland Park one first and second place, and Skokie tied with Peterson Park for third. Confused? Just go look at the pictures. Aaron plays a cross-divisional tournament in two weeks.

Besides everything else going on, Justin and Aaron plays Buddy Baseball at MNASR (sort of a park district for special education kids.) This has been running now for about four weeks, and it goes until the end of June. Today we all went to watch, and I took a few pictures.

Ethan turns seven today. He gets his choice of dinner – so he’s chosen to go to the District 73.5 picnic tonight, but we’ll take McDonald’s food there. Then ice cream cake afterwards.

It’s that time of year – the period between posts when either there’s nothing to post about, or no time to do it. Pretty soon summer will be upon us, and I’m sure we’ll have a lot going on. But meanwhile… yawn.
So here are a few quick news updates, for those of you who must have them:
- Aaron and Marla went to a Sox game in April
- In early May, Aaron won a field trip to a Cubs game from his school
- For the third quarter, Aaron once again made High Honors
- Aaron’s annual band concert was last night. Sorry, no pics or recordings
- Aaron, Ethan, and Justin are all in AYSO soccer, which is about 2/3 through the spring season. Marla and Mike continue to coach them
That’s about it. If I have anything to post pictures of, I will. Summer’s just around the corner…

Justin is five now, his birthday party was at Brunswick Zone in Niles, Illinois where we bowled for 90 minutes, and had pizza, pop, and cake. Everyone had a great time. Pictures are here.

Just a quickie note – Justin has chosen to have a bowling (!!!) party for his birthday, which will be this Saturday. Invites for local friends and family have already gone out. I’ll post pictures afterward.

I usually post the lyrics to a song that I’m dedicating to the birthday person. It took me a while to think of a song that fits Kelly, but here it is.
Woodstock – CSNY
Well, I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, Tell me, where are you going?
This he told me
Said, I’m going down to Yasgur’s Farm,
Gonna join in a rock and roll band.
Got to get back to the land and set my soul free.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
Well, then can I roam beside you?
I have come to lose the smog,
And I feel myself a cog in somethin’ turning.
And maybe it’s the time of year,
Yes and maybe it’s the time of man.
And I don’t know who I am,
But life is for learning.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
By the time we got to Woodstock,
We were half a million strong
And everywhere was a song and a celebration.
And I dreamed I saw the bomber death planes
Riding shotgun in the sky,
Turning into butterflies
Above our nation.
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are caught in the devils bargain,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.

Yes, it’s already that time of year again, when we make our annual pilgrimage to the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois to watch the monster trucks jump, crush, and tumble and we soak up all the complex hydrocarbons. This year, we also got free “Pit Party” passes, which let us arrive early and hob-knob with the drivers, get autographs, and take pictures next to the trucks.
Pictures are HERE.
